Three years ago, I volunteered for a program called SunnyBlue, which works with people with autism (自闭症). When I signed up to help with this program, my mind viewed it as some kind of “easy” way to get community service hours. I saw myself as not much more than an extra set of hands. But that changed once I stepped onto the badminton court.
On both sides of the net, I got to know the participants individually. I learned to love their personalities and the excitement they brought with each swing of the racket (球拍). One of these moments was enabling a player with autism to become a real part of the group. I watched the group grow in confidence, their smile getting wider with every rally (往返拍击). At that moment, I realized my position wasn’t just about helping everything go smoothly; I was part of providing a safe place for them to express themselves and to encourage confidence in who they were.
After that, I continued as an active SunnyBlue member, always focused on serving individuals with autism. Events like the meet-and-greet held with our local police helped me bridge understanding between children with autism, their families, and our welcoming police officers. This meeting opened doors for a greater understanding of neuro disorder and built a newfound sense of care within our city. Today, my team and I have grown the organization into a total of 15 volunteers who work hard to improve the lives of individuals with autism and increase awareness about the disorder in our community.
Through my journey at SunnyBlue, I have learned that the difference we make may be small, but it grows even more with every single person we reach and every connection we go out of our way to make. Be it through coaching or organizing events, I feel proud knowing that every action has helped create a welcoming space where community members with autism can live well!
24. What happened when the author was on the badminton court?
A. He discovered the hidden talents of all the players.
B. He played badminton excitedly and professionally.
C. He realized the true value of his role in the program.
D. He managed to cure a player’s autism through sports.
25. Why was the event “meet-and-greet” held?
A. To raise money for the SunnyBlue program.
B. To deepen understanding among different groups.
C. To build connections between police and volunteers.
D. To introduce new members of the SunnyBlue program.
26. What kind of person is the author?
A. Caring and responsible.B. Curious and determined.
C. Humorous and energetic.D. Respectful and independent.
27. What does the author think of his experience at SunnyBlue?
A. Interesting.B. Rewarding.C. Demanding.D. Embarrassing.

Learning to play a musical instrument can be more than just an enjoyable hobby. Whether it’s playing the piano, taking some guitar lessons, joining your school band, or starting a rock group, playing a musical instrument may help improve your mind. If people wonder what you’re up to, tell them you’re doing something important. You may be making yourself a little bit smarter.
A new study shows that young children who learn to sing or play a musical instrument might have a slight advantage over those who don’t take music lessons.
The study focused on 132 first graders in Canada. The researchers, from the University of Toronto at Mississauga, randomly (随机) put the students into three groups. One group took weekly lessons with instruments, such as violins and pianos. The second group took singing lessons. The third group went to drama class.
All the participants took IQ tests at the beginning and at the end of the first grade. Overall, average scores went up for all groups. But kids who took piano or violin lessons scored higher marks. Their IQ scores went up 7.0 points on average, compared with 4.3 points for kids in the other two groups.
The difference may seem small, and the music students probably won’t end up getting higher grades or having greater success later in life. Even so, the researchers believe the results are still meaningful. Playing a musical instrument requires kids to pay more attention and memorize things. The process of reading music and mastering finger placement is connected with fine motor skills and even better hand-eye coordination (协调). These types of experiences may have positive effects on the developing brains of young people.
So, why not pick up an instrument like a guitar or violin? It’s a great way to improve yourself and bring more music into the world. After all, who wouldn’t want to make the world sound better?
